Dayton will be adding new art murals on a few of the walls downtown this summer.  One location out of 5 has been chosen so far. Each wall will hold a different design created by local artists to take part in the first ever Urban Art Intersections (UAI) program.

Morris Howard was the first chosen with the design of a young African-American girl holding a book and will be displayed at the Transportation Center Garage right across from the Dayton Convention Center.

“UAI will use public art as a way to connect local artists with the community and engage downtown Dayton residents, workers, and visitors with their city in a unique way,” said Val Beerbower, Downtown Dayton Partnership’s PR and Communications Manager.

The DDP has been working with the K12 Gallery & TEJAS and the Dayton Visual Arts Center to choose its winners and oversee the installation of each project. The process should be complete by July 2017.

Tricia Calvert, Laura Huff, Tracy Jayne, and Tiffany & Chris are among the winners. Locations for these murals have not yet been solidified.

“This new civic engagement project will enliven downtown’s streetscapes and build upon the success of other recently completed public art projects,” Downtown Dayton Partnership President Sandra Gudorf said.
