Local hospitals see frostbite cases as Polar Vortex hits Miami Valley

As the Miami Valley deals with the impacts of a Polar Vortex, hospitals have been busy treating people for cold-related injuries.

Kettering Health Network reported 10 cases of frostbite at its campuses in the Dayton area, which includes Kettering Medical Center, Grandview Hospital, Soin Medical Center, Sycamore Medical Center and other campuses.

The injuries were reported from 6 p.m. Tuesday through 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Miami Valley Hospital reported two frostbite cases at its campus, according to a spokesperson.

Mercy Health said they have not had any cases at any of their hospitals.

Dayton Children’s Hospital has not provided information on any possible cases they may have seen.
