Man arrested for burglary, endangering children

A man arrested early Saturday morning for burglarizing a residence on Alaska Street now faces an additional charge of not providing adequate living conditions for his two children.

Jackie L. Goodman, 41, was arrested around 3 a.m. in connection with felony-level offenses of burglary and possessing criminal tools. Police said he is also expected to answer to a misdemeanor-level child endangering charge.

He is accused of  burglarizing a residence on Alaska that the homeowner said had also been robbed between 7 p.m. Thursday and 5 p.m. Friday, according to a police report obtained Saturday.  The report states the homeowner told police she decided to park her vehicle across the street in order to watch over the residence. She reportedly sat in the rear parking lot of the Dahm Brothers Roofing company, located across the street from the house.

She told police she watched Goodman enter her residence around 3 a.m. Saturday. She called police, who subsequently arrived on scene to arrest Goodman.

Before leaving the scene, Goodman told officers that he had two young children home alone at his residence on Brandt Street. According to the report, their ages are 9 and 5 years old.

Officers found his residence on Brandt Street "extremely dirty," according to the report. There was reportedly trash across the floor, improperly disposed of garbage and very little food. Both children slept in a bed that consisted only of the box springs and mattress sitting directly on the floor with no linens on the bed.

Montgomery County Children Services took custody of the children, according to the report.

In the residence, police found several pieces of jewelry on a shelf that appeared to match the items described as being stolen from the residence on Alaska Street.
