Man pulling child’s wagon struck, killed by truck in Middletown ID’d

A man struck and killed by a pickup truck Friday night as he pulled a red children’s wagon across North Verity Parkway has been identified.

Eric Smith, 56, of Middletown, died Friday night at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy is being performed today, officials said.

The man suffered injuries after being hit by a pickup truck as he pulled a small red children's wagon across North Verity Parkway at Access One Road.
Initially he was taken to Atrium Medical Center and flown to Miami Valley Hospital via Careflight with serious injuries.

The man’s identity is being withheld at this time until the family is notified, according to officials.

No word on if the truck driver is at fault.

UPDATE @ 6:05 p.m.: A man suffered serious injuries when he was hit by a pickup truck as he pulled a small red children's wagon across North Verity Parkway at Access One Road in Middletown, said Sgt. Matthew Keener said, Ohio State Highway Patrol Lebanon Post.

The victim has been taken to Atrium Medical Center and is to be taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital.

His condition is not known, the sergeant said.

There is no word yet whether the truck driver or the pedestrian is at fault.

INITIAL REPORT

A report of a pedestrian strike on North Verity Parkway in Middletown has prompted the dispatching of a medic unit and troopers with the Lebanon Post Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The incident was dispatched about 4:50 p.m.
