Meijer plans to invest $5.8 million in renovations at its supercenter at 9200 N. Main St., which opened at that location in 1991.
Besides the Englewood store, Meijer is also renovating its stores in Miami Twp., Kettering and Beavercreek, Frank Guglielmi, Meijer’s senior director of communications.
The North Main Street store’s renovations include a new facade, remodeled gas station and drive-thru pharmacy. Plus, the changes call for enhanced floor plans that will allow for expanded selections in departments throughout the store.
“That’s going to enhance the visual appearance of the building and provide an improved shopping experience for the customer because they will have a drive-up pharmacy window as part of their improvements,” Singer said.
Customers can expect to see some changes on the outside of the store too.
The Michigan-based retailer plans to enhance the lighting outside and make upgrades to the parking lot.
In addition to the remodeling, Meijer will get some new neighbors.
“Starbucks and Panera Bread are planning on building new stores out along Main Street. All of that in conjunction (with the renovations of the Meijer store) will improve the visual appearance of I-70 and Main St. after all the highway projects are completed in a couple of years,” Singer said.
Singer also predicts that more traffic is likely to come from the I-70 exit onto North Main Street due to the new additions at the Meijer store.
The work being done at the Meijer store, which has approximately 240 employees, is expected to be completed sometime in the late fall.
“Once it is done we are planning a special Re-Grand Opening celebration and sale for our customers,” Guglielmi said.
Renovations at the Kroger Marketplace, 885 Union Blvd., started two months ago, according to Singer.
Kroger is planning to invest around $2.4 million in changes to its Union Boulevard property, according to Jennifer Lien, customer communications manager for The Kroger Co. in Cincinnati.
“It’s one of their best stores they have. It does really well,” Singer said. “They are trying a new line of product. In this case they’re putting in some clothing to sell there and they have also remodeled the pharmacy. Hopefully, that will definitely give an improved ease of service for the customers because it is very busy there.”
“We continuously look for ways to meet our customers’ needs and these renovations reflect what our customers are looking for,” Lien said. “Customers will soon be able to shop for apparel and experience an updated pharmacy, The Little Clinic and Wine and Spirits Shop.”
The work at the Kroger, which has 350 employees, is expected to be completed by July.
