Meijer plans $5 million renovation for Beavercreek store

Chain also plans work on Kettering location.

A $5 million upgrade planned for the Meijer on Colonel Glenn Highway will include a new drive-thru pharmacy, parking lot renovations and improvements to the exterior.

The company applied for a related permit with the Greene County Building Regulation Department earlier this month after the planned upgrade was approved by the Beavercreek Planning Commission in February.

Meijer, a Michigan-based retailer that operates more than 200 stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky, declined to comment. It is unknown when construction is expected to begin.

“Meijer has already submitted their permits to us and to Greene County Building Regulation, and once those are approved, they can proceed with the work,” said Sandra Pereira, a Beavercreek associate city planner.

Earlier this month, Meijer submitted preliminary plans to Kettering to remodel and expand its store at East Stroop Road and Wilmington Pike. The design plans are for a 4,400-square-foot building expansion that includes the addition of a drive-through pharmacy and a new employee entrance.

The Beavercreek location was built in 1991 and has had few changes since then, according to city records.

Renovations to the Beavercreek location, a 200,000-square-foot facility, will include exterior brick and stone pillar work.

The proposed drive-up pharmacy will be on the east side of the building where the garden center is located, according to plans submitted to the city. The garden center will be reduced in size.

The number of spaces in the parking lot will be reduced from 1,018 to 947 so that landscape islands can be added.
