Memorial procession held for Richmond officer, injured in line of duty

A memorial procession was held for a fallen officer of the Richmond Police Department Thursday afternoon.

Officer Kenneth Lester, 62, died on Feb. 20 from injuries he suffered in the line of duty in 1995.

Officer Lester was hired onto the department in 1980 and was medically retired in 1996 following an on-duty vehicle accident.

His name will be included with the other 14 Wayne County officers who died in the line of duty when honored during the annual Peace Officers Memorial Service, inscribed on the monument in front of Richmond's Municipal Building and added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.
