Memorial service set for veteran Fairborn police detective

Fairborn Police Detective Steven Jahns will be remembered at a memorial service planned for Saturday at Fairborn High School.

Detective Jahns, 48, died unexpectedly on Monday, according to a police department Facebook post.

He had been employed with the Fairborn Police Department for 23 years, and was a member of the FOP Lodge 48.

According to the officer's Linkedin account, Detective Jahn's career includes stints as a D.A.R.E officer and for the past two years as an adjuct instructor at Wright State University.

The memorial service is noon in the auditorium at the school, 900 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road. Belton-Stroup Funeral Home in Fairborn is in charge of arrangements.

The avid Chicago Cubs fan is survived by his mother, a son and daughter, his fiancee and extended family.

Memorial contributions can be directed to the FOP Scholarship Fund.
