The University of Dayton scheduled a memorial prayer service for Steve McElvene and his family at 5 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of Immaculate Conception.

McElvene, 20, died Thursday after collapsing at his family’s home in Fort Wayne, Ind. He would have been a redshirt sophomore next season. The 6-foot-11 center set a Dayton Flyers record for blocks last season (55).

Funeral service information for McElvene will be shared with the campus community when it is made available, UD announced.

"Athletics, campus ministry and student development are actively supporting his family, friends, teammates and coaches through this difficult time," UD President Dr. Dan Curran said in a press release. "Many people have asked how they can assist. Memorial contributions may be made to GOFUNDME to assist his family.

“On behalf of the entire campus community, we thank all of those who have offered support and prayers during this difficult time. Our prayers and deepest sympathies remain with his family, friends and all who have enjoyed being part of Steve’s life. Please know support services are always available in person or by telephone through the counseling center, campus ministry and residence life staffs. I wish you all of God’s blessings.”
