A total of 14 tornadoes touched down in the Miami Valley, causing widespread structural damage, as well as massive power and water outages.
MetroParks trails, parks, and some scheduled events have too been impacted by the disastrous event.
Here are the list of affected MetroPark operations:
PARKS
- Wegergyn Gardens Metropark is the only park closed until further notice. All other MetroPark are open.
- To conserve energy and water, the interactive fountains at RiverScape MetroPark and the Five Rivers Fountain of Lights will not be turned on until further notice, as well as the water play feature at Island MetroPark.
RECREATIONAL TRAILS
The following trails are closed until further notice:
- Great Miami Riverway Trail between Wagner Ford Road and Needmore Road
- Wolf Creek Trail
- Stillwater River Trail through Sinclair Park, DeWeese Parkway and Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark
FOOD AND BIKE RENTAL
- At RiverScape Metro Park, the RiverScape Cafe and RiverScape bike rentals are closed
- The Fountain Snack Bar will be open Saturday, June 1, and Sunday, June 2, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- The 2nd Street Market will open for its normal hours of operation on Friday, May 31, and Saturday, June 1. The market will begin its Sunday hours as planned. From June 2 through the end of the year, it will open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays.
- Saturday mountain bike rentals at MetroParks Mountain Biking Area at Huffman MetroPark are cancelled. Instead, MetroParks will offer a free Try Mountain Biking program from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
EVENTS
- The free Yoga in the Park program scheduled for Saturday, June 1, from 10 to 11 a.m. will now take place under the pavilion
- Pony rides at the Carriage Hill MetroPark Riding Center will begin this Saturday as planned
- The Music @ Lunch program at RiverScape MetroParks is cancelled until further notice
- The following programs scheduled to take place at a Five Rivers MetroParks location this weekend will continue as planned: Twin Valley Trail Challenge: (5:30 a.m. to noon at Germantown MetroPark), Dayton Beer 5K: (5 to 8 p.m. at RiverScape MetroPark), 15th annual Another Dam 50K: (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Englewood MetroPark)

Those who registered for a Five Rivers MetroParks program that has been cancelled or moved to a different location will be contacted individually.
Five Rivers MetroParks' phone and email services are still experiencing outages, so the public may not be able to reach MetroParks staff and locations. However, updates are being made as they've available at metroparks.org.
