Miami University has announced the postponing of the men’s basketball game tonight and women’s game Wednesday amid the investigation into two possible cases of coronavirus involving students.

The men were scheduled to play Central Michigan Tuesday night, however, Miami officials said they were contacted by Central Michigan asking for the men’s game to be postponed.

“The health and safety of our student-athletes is always a top priority and, out of an ounce of caution, it was decided to cancel tonight’s men's basketball game,” said Michael Alford, Zyzelewski Family Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics at Central Michigan. “I appreciate the diligence that the staff at Miami have shown and this serves as a reminder of how serious these issues are. Our medical team has also been an important part of this process, making sure our student-athletes are safe and protected.”

Miami also said Western Michigan, the team the women were scheduled to play Wednesday, requested their game be postponed.

The games will both be made up at a later date and tickets for the two games will be honored at the makeup game, university athletics officials said.
