Here’s how U.S. News & World Report ranked local hospitals

Miami Valley Hospital is ranked fourth among Ohio hospitals by U.S. News & World Report for 2018-19.

Local hospitals received high marks on the annual report, which ranks best overall hospitals as well as high performing specialties and procedures.

U.S. News evaluates each hospital in up to 16 medical specialties.

Miami Valley, operated by Premier Health, also ranked 49th in the nation for diabetes and endocrinology care, 48th for nephrology, and 28 pulmonology.

The hospital had six specialties ranked as high performing: cardiology and heart surgery, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, urology.

Miami Valley's cancer care and gynocology were not ranked.

Kettering Medical Center, operated by Kettering Health Network, is ranked 15th of Ohio’s 220 hospitals.

None of Kettering Medical Center specialties were ranked.

U.S. News also evaluates certain common adult procedures and conditions.

Kettering Medical Center's abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, heart failure care, colon cancer surgery, hip replacement, knee replacement and lung cancer surgery were all ranked as high performing.

Its heart bypass surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and aortic valve surgery received an average rating.

Miami Valley Hospital's heart failure care, colon cancer surgery, hip replacement, knee replacement, lung cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery, COPD and aortic valve surgery were all ranked as high performing.

Its abdominal aortic aneurysm repair received an average rating.

UC Health West Chester Hospital received high performing rankings for COPD and heart failure. The hospital did not have specialties that ranked.

The highest ranking hospital in Ohio was the Cleveland Clinic, followed by University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
