Miamisburg WWII vet to lead Memorial Day parade

Cemetery services, dance and exhibits highlight weekend

MIAMISBURG — Longtime city resident and World War II veteran Dean Goodwin will be the grand marshal in Miamisburg’s Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 31.

He served in the Army 5th Service Command and also is a past commander and color guard member of American Legion Post 165.

Through the years, Dean has volunteered numerous hours serving veterans and the community.

The annual memorial service will be conducted by the American Legion Post 165 in Library Park after the parade.

The public is invited to decorate a bicycle in red, white and blue and join the parade. Registration is at Miami and Central avenues prior to the event.

Free hot dogs and ice cream will be available after the service. All events are sponsored by the Miamisburg Historical Society Veterans Committee and the Legion post.

The Silver Taps ceremony will be at 7 p.m., May 27, at the Market Square Building in the Miller-Chamberlin Auditorium at 4 North Main St.

This ceremony honors veterans and serving members of the armed services. A military exhibit will be open after the ceremony.

An exhibit of military uniforms and memorabilia will open at the Market Square Building during normal business hours on May 26 and May 29, as well as 1 to 4 p.m. on Memorial Day.

The Victory Dance, featuring the Hauer Big Swing Band, will run from 7 to 10 p.m. May 30 at the Baum Opera House, 15 S. First St.

Dance tickets are $7.50 per person and available at the Market Square Building or at the door.

Memorial Day cemetery services are scheduled for 8:45 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Hope Cemetery, 9:15 a.m. at Hillgrove Cemetery and 9:40 a.m. at Highland Cemetery.

The Linden Avenue Bridge Service will be at 10:15 a.m.
