Stangle was recognized several times during his career. In 1990, he was one of six West Carrollton police officers to receive the Law Enforcement Television Network’s Award for evacuating seven residents from the second-story of a burning house.
In 1996, he was recognized for saving the life of a 2½ year-old girl by performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation until medics arrived.
Also in 1996, he received the Robert B. Jacob Award from the Dayton 100 Club for pulling two youths from a burning truck. He received West Carrollton Police Department’s Employee of the Year Award in 1996.
Stangle earned national recognition as a driving instructor through the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy.
In addition to serving as a shift sergeant, he also had roles as a firearms range instructor, evidence technician and technical crash team leader.
He graduated from the Police Executive Leadership College in 2006 and has also served as a mentor at West Carrollton High School.
“He takes a great deal of knowledge and experience with him, and he will be missed,” said Police Chief Rick Barnhart.
