Free family scavenger hunt at Indian Riffle Park

Families are invited to a free Scavenger Hunt from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 11, at Indian Riffle Park, 2801 E. Stroop Road.

Attendees will take part in 10 fun-filled activities, including searching for various items along the route. The event will be held rain or shine.

After finishing the scavenger hunt, participants will be able to cool off for free at Adventure Reef Water Park from 4 to 8 p.m. that evening.

There will also be sponsored booths during the event providing heart health information, financial health information, and news about upcoming races and events.

Antique Fire Apparatus Show July 11

The 19th Annual Antique Fire Apparatus Show, will take place on Saturday, July 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, N. Walnut St.

Approximately 35 antique fire apparatus will be on display. Fire-related flea market vendors will offer a variety of items and the Germantown Firefighters Association will be selling food at their lunch stand.

Free summer concerts to help those in need

The City of Miamisburg’s Star City Hump Day Happenings Entertainment Series continues on select Wednesday evenings during the summer.

Representatives from the Helping Hands Food Pantry will be at each concert with collection bins. Audience members are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items, cash or check donations to any of the concerts to help stock the pantry.

Concessions are available during the concerts, and guests should bring blankets and lawn chairs. All concerts begin at 7 p.m. and are family-friendly. Alcohol, glass and smoking are not permitted in the park.

Next up is eight-piece band Brass Tracks, who will perform on July 15. Led by saxophonist Hal Melia, Brass Tracks pays tribute to the tribute to the great horn bands of the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s, like Chicago, Blood Sweat and Tears, Earth Wind and Fire and more.

Contemporary jazz and R&B band Kick-n-Flava is set to perform Aug. 19.

MORAINE

Essay contest part of anniversary celebration

As part of Moraine’s 50th anniversary celebration, the city is sponsoring an essay contest for students in grades 5 through 12.

The essay should be about Moraine, and suggested topics include, but are not limited to, Adena and Hopewell Indians, Delco, Dayton Wright Airplane Company, the Wright Brothers or Johnny Appleseed. Or the essay could be based on an interview with a longtime resident about their memories of Moraine.

Essays should be submitted to either the Kettering-Moraine Branch Library or to the West Carrollton Branch of the Dayton Metro Library by Aug. 31. More information and contest rules are available at the library and at the Moraine recreation centers.

Winners, who will receive a free airplane ride at the Moraine Airpark, will be recognized at the Moraine City Council meeting on Sept. 24.

Top essays will be placed in the Moraine time capsule, which will be opened in 2065
