During Public Health – Dayton and Montgomery County’s daily COVID-19 update, a caller asked about the parades, which have become more common, and whether those can still be done under the stay-at-home order.
“For us at Public Health, our interpretation is that we need to stay in line with [Dr. Amy Acton’s] stay-at-home order,” Health Commissioner Jeffrey Cooper said. He added that the order permits leaving home for essential activities, but is very specific about what those activities are.
“Those parades do not meet the intention of the director’s stay-at-home order, and we would say those need to be discontinued,” Cooper said. “That’s not something that’s fun to say, but that’s the reality of where we stand right now.”
Drive-by parades have made the rounds online, including videos posted to social media by area law enforcement and one drive-by for the staff at Kettering Medical Center yesterday.
