Hamvention to offer Ham radio class

A ham radio class will be offered on Saturday, May 16 at Hamvention at the Hara Arena. The class runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the exam for the license is given at the conclusion of the class.

Students must enroll in the class before to Hamvention and will have some reading to do prior to class.

Ham radio, or amateur radio, allows people to communicate via radio over distances ranging from a few to thousands of miles. Unlike phones, amateur radio does not rely on a network which can go down in critical times. Ham radio allows you to speak to many people all at once as opposed to dialing a number and leaving a message.

The class is open to everyone but early pre-enrollment is required. For more information, contact instructor Mitch Stern at 802-578-1978, email W1SJ@ARRL.NET, or visit www.hamclass.net. STAFF REPORT
