Animal blamed for Logan County power outage, school closure

Powers has been restored to most DP&L customers in Logan County.

As of 11 a.m., only one customer is without service, according to the outage map.

UPDATE @ 9:05 a.m.: 

Riverside Local Schools in De Graff have now closed for the day due to a power outage, according to the district’s website.

At 9 a.m., 1,453 DP&L customers remain without power, according to an online outage map.

A DP&L spokesperson said the outage was caused by an animal that caused damage to a substation around 1:40 a.m. Crews are on scene making repairs and the estimated time for power restoration was 9:30 a.m., the spokesperson said.

Additional details were not available.

UPDATE @ 6:40 a.m.: 

An animal that came into contact with equipment in a substation has been blamed for a power outage that knocked out electricity to over 1,400 DP&L customers in Logan County, according to a company spokesperson.

The outage was first reported around 1:40 a.m. and initially knocked out service to 1,453 people in areas near Quincy and De Graff.

Crews have responded to the area and are making repairs. DP&L expects power will be restored to all customers by 9:30 a.m.. according to the spokesperson.

The power outage forced Riverside Local Schools in De Graff to go on a two-hour delay, according to the district’s website.

FIRST REPORT

Over a thousand Dayton Power & Light customers were without power this morning in Logan County in the area of Quincy and De Graff.

According to the DP&L outage map, 1,473 customers were in the dark as of 5:30 a.m.

We contacted Logan County dispatchers and DP&L to try to find the cause of the outage. Logan County dispatchers reported that there hadn’t been any crashes that might have caused the crash, and DP&L was unable to immediately respond.
