High winds affect 30,000 DP&L customers

There were fewer than 400 DP&L customers without power as of 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to the online outage map.

“While we have made great progress, the outage restoration numbers are starting to decline more slowly as crews repair individual outages,” read a statement from DP&L. “Crews are moving from one backyard to the next to make repairs that will restore a few customers at a time. Crews will work around the clock and through tomorrow to restore power to all customers.”

The company’s goal is to completely restore power to customers by midnight, with some possible exceptions for customers with more extensive damage.

DP&L has 100 line technicians from Indiana and other communities to help restore service.

The company also stressed that customers should be careful while cleaning up debris and look for downed power lines before beginning.

“As customers inspect the condition of their property, they should remember to check their trees as well,” the statement read. “Many of the wind storm outages were caused by mature trees falling on power lines ... We encourage property owners to look for signs of tree damage and consult an arborist or professional tree trimming company for recommendations.”
