The National Weather Service confirmed Monday that a tornado touched down in Eaton, which is near Huber Heights. The EF1 twister touched down about about 8:39 p.m., moving at an estimated 90 mph and traveling 4.4 miles, officials said.
Huber Heights resident Brandon Harvey said he experienced the storm firsthand at the intersection of Longford Road and Dial Drive on Sunday night. As he was turning to go home, he felt the violent winds as tree branches and other debris came flying toward him.
It could have been tragic he said.
“It was like a movie,” Harvey said Monday afternoon. “I turned the corner and nothing but wind, branches just flying past me. It was like the movie Twister.”
Some of the debris struck and shattered his car’s windshield. He was also struck with debris and had to be taken to the hospital, although his injuries were not serious.
In addition to Huber Heights, the storm survey crew confirmed a tornado touched down and caused damage in Preble County near West Alexandria.
