Team Penske’s Austin Cindric and the No. 22 Pirtek Ford Mustang displayed the 88th Medical Group banner across the windshield during the July 5 race. For the fourth-consecutive year, NASCAR Xfinity Series teams were given the opportunity to identify a unit or installation to honor for the race.
1st Lt Travis Callihan, group practice manager at Wright-Patterson Medical Center, along with his brother Jared Callihan, Team Penske mechanic, nominated the 88 MDG.
“Frankly, it’s just a really cool gesture on NASCAR’s part to recognize individual units and bases for their teamwork and dedication to service. For our team, it’s an honor to see our name out there on the national scene. My thanks to NASCAR and Team Penske’s Pirtek Ford Mustang for selecting the mighty 88th for this unique honor!” said Col. Mike Foutch, 88 MDG commander.
The 88th Medical Group operates the second largest U.S. Air Force medical center and deploys medical personnel around the globe to support global operations and humanitarian missions.
