Need to get rid of old appliances? Montgomery County offers free event this week.

Montgomery County residents can participate in the annual Appliance Amnesty Weekend by bringing large household appliances to the Montgomery County Transfer and Recycling Facility.

Residents can drop off appliances at the Transfer and Recycling Facility, 1001 Encrete Lane, Moraine. Drop off dates and times are Thursday and Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Acceptable appliances for the free program include refrigerators, air conditioners, stoves and water heaters. Smaller counter top appliances can be disposed of for a small fee.

The weekend event strives to reduce pollution, promote recycling and prevent illegal dumping. Technicians will be on site to remove Freon and properly recycle the larger appliances.

Dayton Power & Light customers can collect $50 for bringing a working refrigerator or freezer or collect $20 for a working air conditioner or dehumidifier.

Throughout the rest of the year appliances can be disposed of for a disposal fee.
