A petition seeks to put the rezoning for nearly 200 new homes in Miamisburg before voters.

The referendum petition follows Miamisburg City Council’s approval last month to rezone 86.6 acres off Benner Road for a housing development proposed by Oberer Development and Ryan Homes.

The rezoning from agricultural to planned residential allows final development plans to be submitted for the Deer Valley subdivision. That proposal calls for 197 homes in a rural area south of the Mound Business Park and west of Pipestone Golf Club, city records show.

A group of residents voiced opposition to the rezoning before both the city council and its planning commission, which recommend the change.

“The undersigned are demanding their voices and concerns be heard when considering growth and development and its impact on infrastructure, greenspace, wildlife, liability, overbuilding, traffic….,” according to a copy of the petition posted on Facebook.

Deer Valley is one of two proposals for new homes in Miamisburg that could bring more than 300 new units to the city. The other, Courseview at Pipestone, calls for rezoning 42 acres off Miamisburg Springboro Road to build 127 new homes.
