The new outpatient facility has been in the works since 2004 and has been under construction since February 2010. Funds for the work were provided by the Dayton VA, Simmons said.
The new 18,520-square-foot community-based outpatient clinic is expected to serve 2,500 veterans, Simmons said. It is one of four such clinic in a 17-county region, including Warren and Butler counties.
The Veterans Service Commission estimates there are roughly 28,500 veterans living in Butler County.
Guy B. Richardson, medical center director, said the VA will continue to coordinate with local services organizations across the community to meet the health care needs of the area’s veterans.
“We are excited about relocating and opening the Middletown (center) in space three times larger than the previous location,” Richardson said.
The Middletown outpatient center will provide veterans with primary medical care as well as podiatry, audiology testing, occupational and physical therapy, mental health services and a full-service laboratory and pharmacy. In-home can also can be provided through the center, according to clinic officials. Simmons said VA staff also anticipate offering radiology services in the future.
Tours of the facility will be offered during the grand opening event, which starts at 1 p.m. at the new VA clinic, located at 4337 N. Union Road, Middletown.
