Work is underway on a new building in Xenia that will be the new home for Greene County Parks and Trails.

County commissioners approved the $4.8 million project in February.

Bluescope Construction was hired to design and build the facility, which will house the entire parks and recreation department, said County Administrator Brandon Huddleson.

“The department is currently spread out over three locations and the project will allow for their consolidation,” Huddleson said.

The new facility is enabling several relocations of county offices and one non-profit organization.

The main office for the parks department, which is among the county offices on Ledbetter Road, will be relocated to the new facility. The parks department naturalists will be moving into the new facility from a Beavercreek Twp. location.

The building used for the parks maintenance staff on Cincinnati Avenue will be vacated to accommodate the Xenia Area FISH Food Pantry.

The FISH Pantry, currently on Ledbetter Road, is being vacated in part to accommodate storage space needs for the county board of elections office.

“Consolidation of staff, equipment, and materials to the Dayton-Xenia Road County Campus will increase efficiency and allow for better service coordination among our other county partners,” Huddleson said. “There are several county departments that require more space and this is the first of several moves to increase service delivery to the citizens.”

The Xenia Fish Pantry has until May 2020 to vacate their current location, according to Gail Matson, Xenia FISH Pantry board president.

Community Development Block Grant monies were awarded to the Xenia FISH Pantry to renovate the parks maintenance staff building.
