BUTLER TWP – Spire Development and Fairfield Homes are planning on developing a rental townhome community on Dixie Drive in a vacant lot south of the Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. Currently, the land is zoned for commercial cemetery purposes.

The property will consist of roughly 44 townhomes and 16 flats with a mixture of one to three bedroom rental units. The homes will be marketed to the township’s working families and senior citizens. The housing will not be subsidized with rent ranging from $600-$900 per unit.

The zoning commission heard the proposal at their Dec. 19 meeting and recommended approval. There will be an information session for the residents at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 4. Township trustees will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Jan. 9 and is expected to vote on the proposal then.

Additionally, a lot just north of Burger King, which is being built at the corner of Benchwood Road and Towne Center Drive is the potential site of another hotel. KIVI Hospitality is interested in building a hotel in the vacant lot. The Board of Trustees recommended the approval in an Oct. meeting.
