NFL to build new turf field at Dayton’s Kettering Field park

Plans to build a new turf field at Triangle Park in Dayton were scrapped because of concerns about Native American burial remains.

But the NFL today revealed that land at Kettering Field park will be the site of the new artificial turf field. The park is at 444 N. Bend Blvd.

The NFL is honoring Dayton for hosting the first-ever professional football game by installing a new turf field in the city.

The NFL originally planned to build the park at Triangle Park, where the first game was played on Oct. 3, 1920, between the Dayton Triangles and Columbus Panhandles.

But the city and NFL nixed that after a survey found possible evidence of Native Americans buried there.

The Bengals kick off training camp Saturday with a practice at Welcome Stadium in Dayton.

The city confirmed today that the former Parkside Homes site near Kettering Field is the targeted location.
