Vandalia is starting the reconstruction of Northwoods Boulevard at a cost of nearly $900,000.

The city plans to completely rebuild the roadway, including the concrete and asphalt, plus work to replace storm sewers, catch basins and concrete curbs.

The city received a grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission for 50 percent of the project costs, or up to $500,000, according to Assistant City Manager Amber Holloway. The city will pay the rest. Total project cost is $896,298.

The project could start as early as mid- to late August with a pre-construction meeting scheduled for July 29.

The project had to wait until the second half of the year when funds became available. The contractor is R.B. Jergens Contractors Inc., based in Vandalia and approved by city council on July 15.

The stretch of road is a little less than a third of a mile. The project will be from west of the Interstate 75 overpass to west of the Flying J service station complex.

The project is slated to be completed by June 2020, according to the city.

Vandalia has another major road project scheduled to start before the end of the year: National Road, U.S. 40, will be resurfaced as part of the state’s resurfacing of state routes.
