RELATED: Kasich declares emergency over Ohio flooding
The organization stepped up to help residents affected by flooding in communities along the Ohio River from Aurora to Portsmouth. Since the flooding began, the Red Cross has opened shelters, provided meals, offered health and mental health services and has been distributing clean-up kits. All assistance is free to those affected and is made possible through donations from the public and corporations, the agency stated in a release.

Of every $1 donated to the Red Cross for disaster relief, 91 cents on average goes to humanitarian services and support programs, the release stated.
