Woman, 35, dies after weekend hit-and-run crash in Dayton

A woman is dead and a man was injured in a crash Sunday evening on North Gettysburg Avenue, according to Dayton Police Lt. James Mullins.

Tasha Watkins, 35, of Fairborn, was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, where she died.

According to police records, a car was traveling northbound on North Gettysburg Avenue when it crashed into the back of another car. The second car was pushed across the median, where it crashed into a third vehicle, a minivan, before driving off the left side of the road and coming to a stop. The minivan was pushed into the next lane, where it crashed with another car traveling southbound.

Meanwhile, the first car went off the right side of the road and crashed into a pole. They then drove the vehicle away from the scene, traveling about a block before abandoning the vehicle in a parking lot and fleeing.

Watkins was the driver of the second car. The man who was injured was in the fourth vehicle. According to police records, he was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with suspected minor injuries.

Mullins said that each vehicle only had one occupant, and that the crash remains under investigation.
