More than 70 community members spent Friday helping clean up Russ Nature Reserve.

This is the first time the public has been inside the reserve on Kemp Road since the Memorial Day tornadoes.

Greene County Parks & Trails leaders say the reserve lost five to six hundreds of trees along with some building damage.

Director Jon Dobney says once the reserve is made safe, they’ll set up a weekend cleanup for the community.

“We’re hoping that we can clean up the dangerous areas in the next two months, but there is so much devastation. It’s a 93-acre property, half of it was a mature forest and that’s where the tornado went through.”
