No OVI arrests made during checkpoint in Montgomery County

UPDATE @ 1:35 a.m.:

An OVI checkpoint was held by the Combined Agency OVI Task Force of Montgomery County from Salem Avenue and Hillcrest Avenue in Dayton Friday at 9 p.m.

The Dayton Police Department reported 315 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and 23 diverted the area at North Main Street and Hillcrest Avenue.

There were no OVI arrests made but there was one misdemeanor marijuana arrest and two misdemeanor warrant arrests made, according to the Traffic Services Unit of the Dayton Police Department.

There were 24 people driving under suspensions and 14 driving without a license, a press release stated.

Extra patrol also surrounded the area of the checkpoint in which 17 stops occurred that resulted in three seat belt violations, three driving without a license, two driving under suspensions and nine warnings, according to the release.

No OVI arrests or drug arrests were made during the extra patrolling, Dayton police said.

The Combined Agency OVI Task Force of Montgomery County will operate a sobriety checkpoint tonight in Dayton.

The checkpoint will begin at 9 p.m., in the area of Salem Avenue and West Hillcrest Avenue. State law requires checkpoint locations to be announced ahead of time.

The goal of the OVI Task Force is to reduce the number of alcohol/drug related traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities in Dayton and Montgomery County.

Sobriety checkpoints help deter impaired driving and aid in the apprehension of impaired drivers who choose to get behind the wheel and drive.
