Vogel died Jan. 24, 1980, succumbed to injuries he suffered when he was struck by a car while investigating a crash at the the junction of I-70 and U.S. 68.

“I am extremely grateful for the incredible sacrifice that Trooper Vogel gave in his service to the state of Ohio,” McGregor stated. “It is my hope that House Bill 306 will ultimately be enacted to honor the life of this great Ohioan.”

The designated memorial highway would span mile markers 51 and 53 in Clark County.
