Local animal organizations are partnering with "Home 4 the Holidays," an event intended to find homes for shelter animals just days before Christmas.

This Saturday, cats and dogs looking for their family will be at the JCPenney court area of the Dayton Mall from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

According to aspca.org, around 6.5 million animals enter shelters every year. Of these animals, 5.5 million are euthanized.

"You don't need to go out and buy a dog from a pet store when there are so many dogs that are out there waiting for their forever homes," Debbie Lieberman, Montgomery County commissioner, told News Center 7's Ronnell Hunt.

In recent years, the number of euthanized shelter animals has decreased as more people choose adoption.

For just $20, your family can bring a cat or dog home for the holidays.
