He travels the country photographing college and professional sports for clients including the New York Times, Golf Digest and Sports Illustrated. Grieshop has provided sports photos to ESPN the Magazine, NBA Photos and NFL Photos, and he is a contract photographer for the Upper Deck Trading Card Co.
“They keep me busy throughout the year,” Grieshop said.
But keeping company with professional athletes hasn’t given Grieshop a stadium-sized ego. Pointing his camera at a Little League player or high school athlete, and what he does with those photos, give him his deepest satisfaction.
Grieshop teamed up with Dan Arnold, another area shutter bug, and set up a Web site, daytonactionphoto.com, providing professional photographs for parents who sit in the bleachers at area games. Grieshop provides a team representative with the game photos, which parents have the option to purchase.
“It’s something I’m particularly proud of,” Grieshop said of the growing number of hits on the Web site, which includes sample photos. “The growth has spread mainly (through) word of mouth.”
A father of two, Grieshop said he understands what a photo of a youngster catching a ball with fingertips would mean to the parent and child. It’s one thing to get that shot of an athlete being paid to make the play, he said, but his pride runs deeper when it’s a pint-sized youngster connecting with the ball at an area baseball field.
“These years are fleeting,” Grieshop said, happy to be able to capture the moment.
