In the early evening hours of May 8, 1969, residents in Kettering and Beavercreek Twp. were surprised by a powerful EF 3 tornado. The storm injured around two dozen people and damaged hundreds of homes and buildings, mostly in the Kettering area. Meteorologists at the time described the tornado as a freak event developing suddenly out of a unique weather pattern.
