The new department will oversee the stormwater utility program, which is state and federally mandated to reduce pollution in Piqua’s waterways.
The Water Department is under the supervision of Water Superintendent Donald Freisthler. He is responsible for the Piqua municipal water system, which includes the operation and maintenance of the treatment plant, the pumping stations and the elevated water towers.
The Wastewater Department is supervised by Wastewater Superintendent David Davis. Prior to his promotion, Davis served as the assistant superintendent. Davis oversees the Wastewater Treatment Plant employees, who are responsible for the operation and maintenance of the plant, lift stations and the new equalization basin.
The new Underground Utility Department is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the distribution or collection systems of three programs: the water distribution system, the wastewater collection system and the new stormwater collection system. It is supervised by Superintendent Todd Brandenburg and Underground Supervisor Shane Johnson.
A Storm Water Program coordinator will be named later. In the interim, questions regarding the Storm Water Utility should be directed to Burtner at (937) 778-2054 or city engineer Amy Havenar at (937) 778-2044.
