A search for a man wanted in a violent felony turned up empty, but a search of the house on East Church Street he was thought to be in was positive for authorities, Xenia police Capt. Steve Lane said.

"I'm not willing to discuss what we found inside, but it was a fruitful search," Lane said.

Xenia police and Greene County SWAT obtained a search warrant on the house after they received information the suspect was in the house.

Lane was not willing to release the man's name or say whether the man lives at the address, but was adamant to get across that the search "is not a Xenia case."

One person was arrested on an unrelated warrant when the SWAT team received information that not everyone in the house had come out willingly. So, tear gas was fired into the house to make sure everyone had exited the house.

The noise residents thought was gunfire was the firing of tear gas canisters, the captain said, noting there was no gunfire.

Lane said additional information about the suspect and the crime(s) he's accused of committing likely would be released Friday.

Residents on and in the vicinity of East Church Street in Xenia were told to shelter in place until further notice because of police activity.

The text message from Greene County Alerts instructed people to stay in their homes or avoid the address.
