Police arrest suspect in Greene County linked to 2016 Fairborn killing

A 24-year-old man once considered a person of interest in a 2016 Fairborn homicide is in the Greene County Jail in connection with murder and aggravated robbery charges.

No charges had been filed as of Tuesday afternoon in Greene County Common Pleas Court against Rashawn Gene Cochran, according ot records

But Fairborn Police Department documents indicate Cochran is being held in connection with a Nov. 20, 2016 homicide at an apartment on West Dayton-Yellow Springs Road.

On that date in 2016, Jarrel Plummer, 23, of Fairborn, died after being shot around a 8:30 p.m. at an apartment in the 100 block of West Dayton-Yellow Springs.

Neither police nor jail records list a current address for Cochran, but 2016 Xenia Municipal Court records show he lived in Dayton.

An arrest warrant was issued on Cochran and he was taken into custody by Fairborn police about 8:30 a.m. Monday, according to police records.

Cochran was one of two persons of interest sought by police in the Plummer case. Authorities issued a warrant for him at that time, according to reports at that time by this news organization.

A police record obtained by this news organization Tuesday about Cochran’s arrest does not specifically mention Plummer’s homicide. However, it does include this entry:

“On Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016 at (8:41 p.m.). officers responded to 132 W. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd. Apt. 21 on a report of a subject bleeding and a gun was observed nearby. This case remains under investigation.”

Fairborn police said when investigators arrived on the shooting scene in 2016 they found a man – later identified as Plummer - suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was transported to a local hospital before dying hours later.
