The Piqua Police Department has asked for the public’s help in identifying two males involved in Monday’s shots-fired incident outside the Walmart on East Ash Street.

Chief Bruce Jamison said that based on store surveillance recordings, police have determined the people involved in the incident had left before law enforcement arrived.

The preliminary investigation reveals a confrontation outside the rear of the store occurred about 2:12 p.m. and one of the people involved fired a handgun toward the other person leaving the dust-up at high speed, the chief said.

Reports of a possible active shooter at the Walmart prompted a large police response from Piqua, the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Troy Police Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Lockdowns were put into place at several schools near the store, Chief Jamison said, including Piqua City Schools (high school and junior high), Upper Valley Career Center and Edison State Community College.
