Man, 38, found dead in truck on U.S. 35 ramp identified; no foul play suspected

A man who was found dead inside his pickup truck on a U.S. 35 ramp in Dayton has been identified as 38-year-old Lucas Cook, according to Montgomery County Coroner Kent Harshbarger.

Cook’s hometown was not immediately available to be released, according to coroner’s office records.

Cook’s preliminary cause of death has not been ruled by the coroner. Police previously said he suffered a medical emergency and his death was not considered suspicious.

The death of a man found in a pickup truck on at U.S. 35 ramp in Dayton is not considered suspicious, according to Dayton police.

Officers said a man his late 30s suffered what appears to be a medical issue and died in his truck on the eastbound U.S. 35 ramp to northbound South Smithville Road before 8 a.m.

No foul play or drug use is suspected in the man’s death, investigators said.

The identity of the victim was not released, pending notification of family.

Dayton police have reopened the ramp on eastbound U.S. 35 to northbound South Smithville Road following a death investigation.

Officers shut the ramp down around 8 a.m. Friday after responding to reports of a person slumped over the wheel of a pickup truck.

It was not known if the death is considered natural or suspicious.

FIRST REPORT

Dayton police have blocked the eastbound U.S. 35 ramp to northbound South Smithville Road Friday after responding to a reported medic call, according to initial reports.

Medics and police were dispatched to the ramp around 7:45 a.m. after receiving reports of a person slumped over the wheel of a pickup truck, according to police scanner traffic.

The ramp was shut down around 8 a.m. but additional details about the investigation were not immediately available.
