Giant pumpkin-flinging catapults and human-powered machines alike will be part of the field artillery of sorts today at the 13th annual Wright-Patterson Pumpkin Chuck.

The public event is free and open between 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the grounds of the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, organizers say.

Spectators should enter through the Spinning Road gate at the intersection of Spinning and Airway.

The event is meant to bring attention to the Combined Federal Campaign, a federal workforce charity fund-raising drive.

Pumpkin Chuck competitors will be divided into three categories, from large and small catapults to human-powered machines. A pumpkin pie bake off along with music, food, and activities for children will be part of the festivities, organizers said.
