Railroad cited 8 times by police as trains cause traffic jams, road closure

A railroad company has been cited multiple times for blocking traffic in Moraine, leading to one road closure lasting more than three hours, records show.

Norfolk Southern Corp. has been cited for violating the city’s traffic code eight times this year at the Main Street crossing between Ohio 741 and Dryden Road, according to Moraine police records.

Trains have remained stationary at the crossing anywhere from 20 minutes to slightly more than three hours, records show. On Feb. 5, the city placed road closing signs “on both sides of railroad crossing” at Dryden Road and Ohio 741, police records show.

City code states trains cannot be motionless blocking the road for more than five minutes.

The citations were issued on Jan. 3, Jan. 8, Jan. 15, Jan. 29, Feb. 5, March 10, March 12, April 1, according to police records.

An attorney for the railroad declined comment.
