“Our volunteers have been the backbone of this event since the beginning and are key to its success,” said Air Force Race Director Brandon Hough. “Every year we hear the same feedback from our participants that we have the best volunteers of any race and we take a lot of pride in that.”
“We have so many opportunities for people to volunteer their time,” said Jeanette Monaghan, volunteer coordinator. “From the pre-race preparations, the Sports and Fitness Expo on Sept.19 and 20 to jobs on the finish line on race day, anyone can find a way to contribute.”
The marathon is also looking for musicians and performers of all varieties to provide course entertainment for the runners.
“Every year we feature bands, DJs and acts of all kinds along the race course.” Monaghan said. “We always present an award for best course entertainment as voted on by the runners.”
The Air Force Marathon also benefits from groups that volunteer both at the expo and on race day.
“Every year we have civic groups, businesses and student groups volunteering in support of the Air Force Marathon and the Dayton community. These volunteer opportunities make for great team-building exercises,” said Monaghan.

All volunteers will receive a free Air Force Marathon volunteer shirt.
The Air Force Marathon, presented by Northrop Grumman, USAA and Boeing, is scheduled for Sept. 21. The Sports & Fitness Expo is held at Wright State University’s Nutter Center and will be Sept. 19-20. The event will also feature a gourmet pasta dinner and Breakfast of Champions Sept. 20 as well as an after-party Sept. 21 at the Greene Towne Center in Beavercreek.
