Deputies were parked near the 1400 block of Hickman Road when they heard three gunshots; a witness told the officers the shots sounded like they came from near one of the Greene Meadows Apartment buildings, according to the report.
A crowd of people were gathered for a party outside the apartment building, but no one was running or appeared to be in fear, according to the report.
The deputies reported they heard three more gunshots coming from another side of the building as they checked the area. No one was found injured, but 9 mm shell casings were found near the east door of the building, according to the report.
While walking back to their cruiser after checking the welfare of the apartment residents, the deputies heard a single gunshot that came from the direction of the CSU campus, which sits about a half-mile away southwest of the apartment buildings.
Deputies searched the campus and made contact with Hill, who reported that the single gunshot came from her firearm; the police chief told the deputies she fell and her weapon accidentally discharged a round, according to the report.
Hill was named earlier this year as a finalist in the Campus Safety Director of the Year award by Campus Safety Magazine.
CSU spokesman Robert Vickers said they are reviewing the report of the incident.
“Any actions going forward will be handled internally,” Vickers said.
