Police ID man hit by train and injured in Middletown

UPDATE @ 4:40 p.m.: A Hamilton man was struck by a Norfolk Southern train about 1:29 a.m. Friday near the dead end of Poe Street where the railroads cross.

Police found Thomas Kyle Kolberg, 28, laying on the ground and bleeding next to the tracks about a quarter of a mile behind a residence in the 4000 block of Jewel Avenue.

A witness told police he was with Kolberg walking on the tracks near Vannest and Jewell avenues.

Kolberg was taken by ambulance to Atrium Medical Center where he was reported to have suffered several cuts to the head and leg as well as a possible broken femur and collapsed lung.

No condition on Kolberg was available Friday afternoon.

Police and medics are responding to a person reportedly struck by a train near Poe Street early Friday.

Crews were dispatched to the dead end of Poe Street and Jewell Avenue around 1:35 a.m., per initial reports.

Emergency scanner traffic indicated the individual hit was alert and conscious.
