Residents are concerned about a proposed hotel in the Cornerstone of Centerville development.

The Home2 Suites by Hilton is being planned at 5321 Cornerstone Boulevard near the new Costco Wholesale Store.

“What is being proposed is a four-story hotel building with approximately 100 rooms,” said Nathan Cahall, Centerville Economic Development Administrator.

People who live nearby said they fear it will change the dynamics of their neighborhood.

“I am mostly worried about noise and traffic at night,” said Ann Rainey, who lives across the street from where the hotel will stand. “It will also block our view.”

A public hearing will be held Tuesday before the Centerville Planning Commission at the Centerville Municipal Building, 100 West Spring Valley Road, in the council chambers. The council will hear a request for a variance to permit an additional 8 feet of height for the building.

“It is an architectural feature on the roof line,” Cahall said. “We generally permit 45 feet.”

The planning commission is expected to make a decision that night. If it passes, plans for construction will proceed.

The hotel will join a host of new businesses in the Cornerstone Development such as Cheddars, Kroger, which is under construction, and Bagger Daves.

Construction for the hotel is expected to begin by the end of the summer.
