State troopers say the truck’s driver noticed an issue believed to be coming from the tires or brakes on the trailer while driving southbound on the highway. The driver pulled over near a rest stop, just north of Piqua-Troy Road and the trailer immediately caught fire.
The rear of the trailer was fully involved when crews arrived on scene and the load of oil the truck was carrying made it difficult to put the fire out, officials say.
The driver was not injured due to the blaze.
The fire was extinguished and had the right lane blocked for nearly four hours.
The lane has since reopened and the semi-truck is contained to the right shoulder for clean-up.
