Some bus routes will be eliminated and fares for riders who pay cash will increase under a plan members of the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority board approved this afternoon.

The finance committee approved the changes last month.

RTA leaders have said changes are need because of a $4.6 million loss of sales tax revenue the agency will no longer receive from Medicaid managed care. Other government agencies also are losing that sale tax revenue, which for RTA amounted to 6 percent of RTA’s revenue.

The changes will take effect Feb. 18.

The plan eliminates $1.50 tokens and increases single-boarding cash fares from $1.75 to $2. Those who currently pay cash —about a fifth of RTA’s customers — will see the increase.

RTA officials noted that the price for a day pass will decrease from $5 to $4 under the new proposal.
