Saturday’s antique car parade celebrates 100 years of Chevrolet

BUTLER COUNTY — The annual Antique and Classic Car Parade, which enters its 57th year, begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

It will include a car exhibit that runs until noon at the Hamilton West Shopping Center at Main Street and Brookwood Avenue in Hamilton. The parade starts at 1 p.m., running to Fairfield going East Main Street, going south on Martin Luther King Boulevard, which becomes Pleasant Avenue. it will then go east on Symmes to Fairfield Crossings. It stops from 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. at Fairfield Crossings at Ohio 4 and Symmes Road, then returned to the Butler County Courthouse on High Street via the same route.

The Fort Hamilton Jazz Band plays at the courthouse gazebo at 2:30 p.m., and the cars will be on exhibit until 5 p.m.

This year’s event celebrates 100 years of Chevrolet. The 57th Annual Parade Lead Car is a 1929 Chevrolet International Model AC 4 door sedan.

The owners are Tom and Carol Schweitzer or Rising Sun, Ind. “This was the first year for Chevrolet’s OHV inline 6 “Stovebolt” engine that remained basically unchanged through 1962,” says the website of the Antique and Classic Car Club of Butler County. “The new engine produced 46 HP from 194 cu.in. and all 10 body styles rode on a 107 in. wheelbase. Our featured four-door sedan sold for $675. It is mostly original including the upholstery, drive train, and 90 percent of the paint.”
